DR. KATIE COOMBS, NATUROPATHIC DOCTOR, CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER
Naturopathic medicine brings together the parts of the world that I enjoy the most. Nature and medicine! As a licensed Naturopathic physician, I am able to order lab work, perform physical exams when required, diagnose conditions with this information and prescribe nutrition and supplements, intravenous therapies, botanical medicines, counselling, craniosacral therapy, acupuncture as well as upcoming new therapies in the industry.
Currently, I am most interested in hormonal dysfunction. Your hormones are the messengers of your body and a small problem (excess or deficiency) in one itsy bitsy hormone can cause global symptoms throughout the body. This can even include effects on other hormones. Common diagnoses include: hypothyroidism, adrenal fatigue, hypogonadism, estrogen dominance or progesterone deficiency, menopause and PMS.
In my personal life, I’ve spent time living in several mountain towns and I became an avid snowboarder and downhill mountain biker. I stay active in the city by running, hiking, biking and enjoy weight training as well. I believe it is very important to find activities that you enjoy in order to maintain fitness in your everyday life.
I also spent some time in the desert around Kamloops (or as close to the desert as you can get in canada) completing my BSc in biology at Thompson Rivers University. The knowledge that I gained regarding the human body is important in my medical training, movement training and in nutritional recommendations to feed that movement! I love to travel and have spent time in several South East Asian countries. Most recently, I spent some time in Nepal- the most amazing place on the planet! It's amazing to see people that live through their movement and spirituality.
I have always thought that physical fitness is very important and am always excited to see my clients health improve. By incorporating yoga and breathing exercises I hope also to get you excited about new levels of health and fitness. I work with all levels of experience from beginner to athlete and enjoy training clients of all ages.
My vision as a naturopathic doctor is individual care for individual clients and I hope to be a part of the change that I know is within each person. With a little effort from you, and the motivation and knowledge from me, together we can help you reach any of your health or fitness goals, whatever they might be!
